🧺 How to Care for Fresh Eggs
🥚Don’t wash them right away
Fresh eggs have a natural coating called the bloom that protects them from bacteria. Leave them unwashed until you're ready to use them.
🥚Store unwashed eggs at room temperature
If the bloom is intact, you can safely keep eggs on the counter for up to 2 weeks. After that, move them to the fridge.
🥚Refrigerate washed eggs immediately
Once washed, eggs lose their protective layer and must be kept cold to stay safe and fresh.
🥚Keep them pointy side down
This helps preserve the yolk and prevents spoilage.
🥚Do the float test for freshness
Place an egg in a bowl of water:
Sinks flat = fresh
Stands upright = older, still usable
Floats = toss it
🥚Avoid storing eggs in the fridge door
Temperature fluctuations can shorten shelf life. Use a middle shelf instead.
